Moving Through Stillness
An Introduction to Vinyasa Yoga
Description
The practice of vinyasa yoga involves a synchronisation between evenness of breath and movement, emphasising a fluid, rhythmic flow through asanas with equal importance placed both on postures and the transitions between them. Just as the I Ching posits that the true nature of our cosmos is a continuous process of change (rather than a fixed substance), vinyasa fosters an acute awareness of our world and ourselves through its unceasing flow. This 4-session concise programme introduces new practitioners to the basic elements of vinyasa, where every individual is encouraged to approach yoga as a creative and imaginative endeavour. ‘Moving Through Stillness — An Introduction to Vinyasa Yoga’ is an approachable, foundational programme comprising four 1-hour lessons held on Saturday mornings on Aug 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 10am – 11am. Through simple exercises, the programme addresses: 1) Foundational elements of vinyasa. 2) Postural alignment as a starting point to develop a safe practice. 3) Exploring aspects and levels of our own body, and how the practice can facilitate greater holistic health, self-regulation, mobility, and equanimity in our daily life. This programme is entirely free of charge. But do be mindful that the lessons progressively build on each successive class, so students are asked to commit attendance to all four classes upon registering.
